My Year in Nonfiction

As many of the bloggers I read online celebrate autumn, we here in Australia are dealing with the mercurial nature of spring. It seems the weather can’t decide if it should be hot or cold, wet or dry, cloudy or sunny. I’m looking forward to the warmth of summer (though I could do without the associated fire danger). November does have one thing going for it, though. It’s time for Nonfiction November. If, like me, this is your first time participating, Rebekah at She Seeks Nonfiction has an introductory post listing the hosts and weekly topics. Essentially, though, we post about nonfiction books every Monday in November, based on a weekly topic. Our week one host is Heather at Based on a True Story, and she poses some questions to help us get started.

What nonfiction books have I read this year?

Which were my favourites?

Is there a topic I’d like to read about more?

Some things I’ve come across while reading or watching telly, which I want to read about:

  • The Black Market Express during the war
  • Pocket Watches (inc history)
  • Aircon (history)
  • May Fourth Movement
  • Cultural Revolution (China)
  • Campaign to Exterminate Four Pests (China)

What am I hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?

Well, aside from having a bit of fun in November, there are two main things I hope to get out of participating. Firstly, I’m looking forward to finding tons of awesome books to add to my wishlist because who doesn’t love finding new books to read? The other thing I’m hoping for is to bring people’s attention to the books I’ve read which they might not have heard about, or maybe they’ve heard about them but they weren’t on their radar.
