I haven’t done a ton this week. Mostly it’s just been assessments, getting used to a regular blogging schedule, and prepping for my return to BookTube in December. Blogging has been a bit of a learning curve, finding out what I can do on wordpress.com and trying to figure out workarounds for the things I can’t.
I haven’t been watching much this week because I’ve not been feeling the best. I have been watching a few TBR game videos to get some ideas for when I’m ready to make my own. I’ve also watched a few reaction videos. One of my faves this week was Foreign Girls reacting to Jurassic Park. Oh, and I’ve started following a few board game channels. It began with my discovery of Crimsonboardgames a week or two ago when I came across her Top Ten Solo Board Games video; and, oh my gosh, did you even know that’s a thing? I’m stoked to have made this discovery!
I love board games. It should be said, I’m not very good at them, but I enjoy playing. Unfortunately, I haven’t played any in years because, well, I’ve no one to play them with. So, finding out that solo games exist is the highlight of my month. I can’t wait until the new year (when all my Xmas expenses are done with) so I can go out and grab some! I’m leaning towards Calico as my first purchase if I can get hold of it, as it looks like a lot of fun. What d’you reckon? Anyone played it?
I had a song stuck in my head for the past couple of weeks. Not even a full song, just a couple of lines. Infuriating. I finally got it out of my head the night before last, only to have Mum play it in the car yesterday morning putting it right back in. Aaaagh! If I turn batty, everyone here will now know why.
We had Simple Satay Chicken for dinner last night, so tonight’s dinner is leftover satay in puff pastry. So yummy!

Mum was done with one of her books so she gave it to me:
Jacinda Ardern: The Story Behind an Extraordinary Leader by Michelle Duff

Visited Kiwanis, a local second hand bookstore to look into volunteering there. I should have known better than to browse the stacks, but I have exactly zero impulse control on these matters, especially when I discover a room dedicated to nonfiction, and especially when there’s a whole section devoted to Australian history. Here’s the new additions to my shelves:
The Australian Home by Ian Evans
Bill Wannan Selects Stories of Old Australia
The Copper Beech by Maeve Binchy
The Fine Colour of Rust by P. A. O’Reilly
From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz
The Coward’s Tale by Vanessa Gebbie
Grains of Mustard Seed by Colin Thiele with research by Ron Gibbs
Islands of Angry Ghosts by Hugh Edwards
A Place of Exile: The European Settlement of New South Wales by David Mackay
Three Wild Dogs and the truth by Markus Zusak

Inner Circle shows progress

This week I learned that there was a coordinated maritime rescue on 9/11. Over 150 merchant ships, tugboats, and ferries evacuated over half a million frightened and injured civilians from Manhattan, making it the largest sea evacuation in history even eclipsing Dunkirk, in which an armada of civilian boats joined the navy in rescuing 338,000 Allied troops. It has been dubbed the Great Boat Lift of 9/11.

Words I had to look up this week:
inimical
- adverse or unfavourable
- not friendly; hostile
(source: collinsdictionary.com)
In the context I read it, the meaning was definitely hostile as it was referring to a malevolent alien.

Pronunciations I had to look up this week:
Hebrides

So, here it is. Better late than never, I suppose. Just pretend today is Sunday lol. It took a lot longer than anticipated, partly because this is the first one, so I had to settle on a template, create images, and all that jazz; but mostly, because a lot of the books I bought are so old that I had to add them to The StoryGraph, and request they be added or tweaked (adding covers, blurbs etc) on Goodreads. You would not believe how much time that took up! And all this while trying to read enough for my reading challenges. There might be a couple of changes here and there as the weeks progress but, for the most part, with the initial setup done, it should be so much quicker from now on. Especially since book hauls, which is what took up most of my time, are a rarity for me.
Anyway, I think the Sunday Post (and other blogging memes along the same lines) is a great idea and I’ve had tremendous fun putting it together. Shout out to the Caffeinated Reviewer for hosting it!

I didn’t know about Great Boat Lift of 9/11! Very heartwarming how people band together in a time of crisis! I love Agatha Christie and I’m sure I read The Hound of Death at some point but I don’t remember it. I’ve slowly been rereading her books by audios so maybe I’ll do that one soon-ish. I don’t do board games, but fun to know that there are solo ones out there. I’m addicted to jigsaw puzzles and I always have one going! I need to reign in my puzzle spending!

I have to know. What’s the song?
Love the template; may try this approach one time.

Thanks. I’ll probably tweak it a bit here and there until I’m happy with it. The song is I Am Woman by Helen Reddy.
