PEACH

A cat sitting in a hanging basket next to peaches on a vine, with the word PEACH down the right side.

(for fiction and fanfiction)

P = Plot

Did I like the events of the book? Was it easy to follow? Complex? Enjoyable? Well-paced? Did it surprise me? Was it predictable? Basically, how well did the author execute the actual storyline?

E = Enjoyment

Did I like the book? How much? Did I stay up all night reading? Did I think about it when I wasn’t reading? Would I read it again? Would I recommend it to a friend? This is the most important category for me, and the deciding factor between PEACH and CAWPILE.

A = Artistry

This is where I dig into the mechanics of writing. Was it written well? Was it engaging? Was the writing beautiful, poetic, awkward, clunky, perfunctory, dry, florid? Were there any writing devices that pulled me out of the story? Was the book poorly edited or edited well?

C = Characters

Did I love them? Did I hate them? Love to hate them? Were they well fleshed out? Were they complex, shallow, believable, caricatured? Were they consistent? Did they grow?

H = Heart

This is similar to, but different from enjoyment. Did the book stay with me for weeks after reading it? Did it make me feel seen? Would I reread it? Could I see it becoming a comfort read in the future? do I wish I could live in it’s pages? Do need everyone I know to read it so I can talk about it?
