G’day. Welcome to my little area of the gigantic world colloquially known as the Web. Please, pull up a pew and stay awhile. I’m Adele, a forty-something mother of four adult children. I’m fairly new to this review malarkey, having rarely written anything more than a brief paragraph along the lines of ‘I liked/disliked this and would/wouldn’t recommend it’, so I appreciate your patience while I learn to do it well.

I used to host another blog but it was a bit of a mish-mash. It had no overarching theme or focus and was a bit of a mess, so I’ve decided to buckle down and start over. I’m currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a Creative Writing major. I love reading, writing, chocolate, and watching YouTube.

I don’t currently favour any particular book genres; I’ll read almost anything if it sounds interesting, though I tend not to enjoy memoirs and category romance as much as other genres. My favourite fanfic fandoms are Harry Potter and Harry Potter crossovers, but I read others if they tickle my fancy. I do enjoy dabbling in the occasional poem, though I admit that I don’t often understand what I’m reading.

I’m a bit fussier with my movie choices, tending to prefer interesting and quirky films with personality. Films like The Princess Bride; In Bruges; and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels come to mind. I also enjoy disaster films (think Independence Day, and The Day After Tomorrow), and I’m a huge fan of Australian cinema. As for television — I overwhelmingly favour documentaries, quiz shows, and police procedurals like C.S.I. and Bones.

I’ve recently developed a passion for YouTube reaction videos. Seriously, I derive an insane level of enjoyment from watching strangers react to my favourite movies, songs, and television shows. It’s also a great way to pick up recommendations for future viewing pleasure, as long as you don’t care about spoilers.

This isn’t just a book review blog. It also covers fanfiction, movies, short stories, and anything else which takes my fancy. If you’ve somehow stumbled across this blog by accident, and reviews aren’t your thing, I also post original content for your reading pleasure.

I don’t currently do paid promotions. Everything I review is because I’ve actually read/watched/used it and wanted to share my opinion. You can rest assured that I will never lie in my reviews. While experiences are subjective, I want you to be able to rely upon my honesty, not wonder if I’m just saying something because I was paid to do so. Even if, in some nebulous future, I accept any sponsorships, I will continue to give my honest opinion. Sponsor or not, if I dislike something I won’t hesitate to tell you so. I use Erin Smith’s PEACH and MITSU systems, along with a few derivatives I developed, to rate my books to the nearest quarter star, then round up to the nearest half star, and the nearest full star. While recommendations are definitely welcome, my reading (and viewing) choices are based entirely on what I find interesting and feel in the mood for at the time. Even the challenges and readathons I join allow me to choose what I want to read within the prompts. If I don’t read your favourite book, take forever to get to it, or give it a negative review, this is in no way a reflection on your reading preferences. We are both different people, and are bound to have different tastes.
