WWW Wednesday 2025: 19 November

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, where bloggers share their answers to the reading world’s three W’s:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Disclaimer: While I do participate in a few challenges and readathons, I am also a mood reader, so any books waiting in the wings are subject to abrupt and unannounced changes. You have been warned lol.

Pages in Progress

Cupid’s Curse: A Romantic Fantasy Adventure of Love, Gods, and Breaking Generational Curses by Travis Brown: Digital. 271 pages. 77% done. Current Goodreads rating = 0.00. There are no ratings or reviews on The Storygraph. Won this through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. I’m still struggling with this one but I don’t DNF review copies so I’ll keep on muddling through.

The hound of death: And other stories by Agatha Christie: Paperback. 190 pages. 91% done. Current Goodreads rating = 3.46. Current Storygraph rating = 3.24. Still enjoying this collection. Most of the stories are excellent.

Small Worlds: Flash Fiction and Microfiction by Gail Vida Hamburg: Digital. 156 pages. 38% done. Current Goodreads rating = 4.40. Current Storygraph rating = 3.25. Won this through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. As the name suggests, this is a flash fiction and microfiction collection. Haven’t made progress this week.

The Music Makers: A novel about the death and re-birth of freedom by James D. Snyder: Digital. 193 pages. 4% done. Current Goodreads rating = 4.40. There are no ratings or reviews on The Storygraph. Won this through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. No progress this week. I’ve only just started this so I don’t have an opinion as yet.

Dracul by Dacre Stoker & J.D. Barker: Hardcover. 497 pages. 27% done. Current Goodreads rating = 4.14. Current Storygraph rating = 4.04. I’m really enjoying this book. Engaging enough to not want to put it down, creepy enough to not want to read it at night.

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns #1) by Kendare Blake: Hardcover. 398 pages. 26% done. Current Goodreads rating = 3.79. Current Storygraph rating = 3.70. This came in a Owlcrate box a few years ago and I didn’t read the blurb on the inside dustcover flap, so I went into this flying blind. I’m really enjoying this book. The cover is so pretty, reminding me of an old classic, and the page edges are soft and uneven like they were homemade (I don’t know the name for this style of edging — let me know in the comments). Most importantly, the story itself is entertaining.

How to Be Both by Ali Smith with John Banks (Narrator): Audio. 8 hours 28 minutes. 31% done. Current Goodreads rating = 3.66. Current Storygraph rating = 3.8. This is a reread for me. I’m understanding a lot more this time around. May because it’s audio?

100 Things to Do Before You Die: (plus a Few to Do Afterwards) by Liz Else & Valerie Jamieson: Paperback. 92 pages. 43% done. Current Goodreads rating = 3.08. There are no ratings or reviews on The Storygraph. This should be readable in an hour, but it’s kinda boring, so I’m just reading it bit by bit.

Four Ingredients by Kim McCosker & Rachael Bermingham: Paperback. 236 pages. 30% done. Current Goodreads rating = 3.52. Current Storygraph rating = 3.5. The recipes I tried this week are:

  • Easy Satay
  • Beef Koftas

I formed the koftas into burgers and paired them with the Satay to make satay burgers. I would probably add a little more curry to the satay, or maybe some chilli flakes, but the satay burgers were tasty and will be added to my rotation.

Lawless Game of Lies by Maeven Vox: Digital. 412 pages. 16% done. Current Goodreads rating = 4.27. Current Storygraph rating = 3.0. Won this through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. Not very far into it, but it’s good so far.

On the Shelf Again

I didn’t read my challenge/readathon books in their correct month/s due to being in a reading slump, but I’m counting them anyway, because I did read them!

Spice Rating: 3
Some Thoughts (not reviewed yet): I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to. I picked it up for the Bewitched Reading Challenge and I don’t regret it. It’s both sweet and freaking hilarious. And the narrator did a great job as well. I was fully immersed in the story. A pool room book for sure.

The Story of Vicente, Who Murdered His Mother, His Father and His Sister Life and Death in Juarez by Sandra Rodriguez Nieto

Title: Story of Vicente, Who Murdered His Mother, His Father and His Sister: Life and Death in Juarez

Prompts:
The 52 Book Club Challenge 2025: Set in a country with an active volcano
The Buzzword Challenge 2025: July: Titles featuring Punctuation

Some Thoughts (not reviewed yet): Much of the information in this book was interesting and I did learn some things. However, after the first few chapters, the book became rather dry and repetitive. I feel like it could have been a lot shorter and still conveyed the same message.
